Sad to see STCC eliminating the great automotive program
It’s sad to see STCC is eliminating the great automotive program I graduated from. I attended this program at the age of 30 while looking for a career change, after being laid off from from an IT job that was thinking of outsource. I always had a passion for cars, but no formal training. In this program, I earned an associates degree, graduated with honors and won an award in automotive technology excellence. All possible thanks to the teachers, instructors and outstanding program structure. Without the staff or the program, I would not have been successful or had the opportunity to work for many years as an automotive service technician in a high volume Ford dealership.
In the linked article, Ramiro makes some great points as well as the enrollment numbers to prove the program isn’t lacking interest, as applications to the program far exceed the allotted class size requirements.
I still can’t see how cutting the only program of its kind is beneficial to STCC and the surrounding community. To me it sounds like the president of STCC, with no actual experience in the automotive field is trying to get his way or has some kind of vendetta against blue collar workers that run our country.
